In mild-winter climates, white bloom spikes may appear in late winter or early spring after cool-season sowing. Christmas flowers are not expected; actual bloom timing varies with weather and planting date.
Sugar Lupine™ · Boregine white annual lupine
Grow Your Own White Winter™ — white-flowering annual lupine for sunny, cool-season gardens.
No snow? Grow your own white winter. Sugar Lupine™ transforms the cool-season garden with elegant white flower spikes rising above finely divided, narrow green leaves. This white-flowering Boregine cultivar of Lupinus angustifolius is an annual lupine, not the perennial Sundial Lupine. Plant it in full sun and free-draining soil for luminous ornamental drifts, borders and seasonal plantings. In mild-winter regions, sow during fall or winter; white flowers may follow in late winter or spring, depending on weather and planting date. In colder regions, sow in early spring when the soil is workable, allowing time to bloom before summer heat. Do not expect blooms by Christmas. As a legume, Sugar Lupine can fix nitrogen when compatible soil bacteria are present. Seeds are intended for ornamental planting, not food or animal feed.

A cool-season white garden
Beautiful white flower spires and distinctively narrow lupine foliage for mild-winter gardens. Plant in the cool season and anticipate flowers later in winter or early spring—not by Christmas. In colder regions, sow early in spring when soil is workable.

How to Plant
Before broadcasting, thoroughly mix this individual seed with dry sand, vermiculite, or another clean, dry carrier. A carrier is strongly recommended for most individual species and is especially important for small or lightweight seed. Sow Sugar Lupine about 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep in prepared, well-drained soil. Cover the seeds fully with soil and firm gently for good contact. Keep evenly moist through germination without waterlogging. Direct sow in early spring in colder climates, or fall through winter where winters are mild.

A white Christmas is not the promise. In mild-winter regions, fall or winter sowing may bring beautiful white blooms in late winter or early spring, depending on growing conditions.
An annual with a different rhythm
Unlike perennial Sundial Lupine, Sugar Lupine is an annual. Give this confirmed white-flowering Boregine cultivar full sun, well-drained soil, and a cool growing season.
