What to Expect
Let the planting develop.
An annual that favors cooler conditions. Leafy growth gives way to flowers and seed as plants mature, especially in heat. Allow selected plants to finish if coriander seed is your goal.
Herbs & Botanicals · Annual Seeds
Fresh cilantro leaves. Fragrant coriander seed. One plant, two seasons of possibility.
Grow the herb you reach for fresh and the spice you wait for. Coriander / Cilantro brings bright green leaves to a kitchen garden, then fine foliage and airy white flowers as the plant matures. The leaves are cilantro; the mature dry seed is coriander. Let a few plants flower for visiting beneficial insects, or sow small batches for a succession of fresh leaves. A natural fit for herb beds, botanical borders, and the Gin & Chartreuse garden palette.

How to Plant
Before broadcasting, thoroughly mix this individual seed with dry sand, vermiculite, or another clean, dry carrier. A carrier is strongly recommended for most individual species and is especially important for small or lightweight seed. Direct sow ¼–½ inch deep in well-drained soil. Thin to roughly 4–6 inches for established plants, with more space for large seed-producing plants. Keep the seedbed moist through germination, then water regularly without waterlogging. Sow successive small batches for leaves; heat encourages flowering and seed production.

Snip leaves once plants are established. Leave selected plants to flower, then collect seed heads as they dry and finish drying them in a ventilated place. Planting seed is not a ready-to-eat spice.
