Your packet-by-packet planting guide

Give each color its own place.

Plant each packet separately so you can follow its sowing depth, spacing and seasonal window. Clear weeds and grass, loosen the soil surface and water gently after sowing.

Packets are filled by weight. Counts are estimates, not exact guarantees; natural seed size varies by lot. The packet estimates add to approximately 2,000 seeds.

Choose a sunny spot.

Use full sun and well-drained soil. Keep tall plants where they will not shade shorter companions.

Start with steady moisture.

Keep the seedbed evenly moist through germination, without waterlogging. Thin to the spacing above and water as needed while roots establish.

Let the seasons guide you.

Cornflowers favor a cool start; zinnias favor warm soil after frost. Flowers develop in stages, so the whole collection may not bloom together.

The rose mallow is annual Lavatera trimestris. Larkspur and mignonette prefer a cool start; follow their individual planting windows rather than sowing every packet on the same day.

A garden plan, planted your way

A suggested 200 sq ft footprint.

Use about 200 sq ft as an example garden footprint, or divide the varieties among smaller coordinated beds, borders and cutting patches. Leave access to water, thin and cut your flowers.

This is a suggested layout, not a tested broadcast coverage rate. The packets are planted individually; the area you fill depends on spacing, establishment and how many plants you choose to grow.
